Letter: Leaders elected to work together

In response to the article titled “Trump leans left on some issues,” isn’t that exactly what we as citizens want and have been missing in our politicians? The ability to lean right or left depending on facts and the circumstances of the issue?

It appears to me that our problem of inertia in Congress stems from rigid politicians who are unwilling to consider both sides of an issue and make the best decision for the most people.

Democracy is based on thoughtful examination of the situation, even if flexibility and compromise is needed. Our government was not designed for unilateral decision making. Members of the House and the Senate were elected to work together, and with knowledge and intelligence enact policies that work, even if the decisions require combining ideas and plans from both sides of the aisle.

Please, representatives, don’t assume one side has all the answers.
