Letter: What’s going on at Hilton Head Town Hall?

Hilton Head Island Mayor David Bennett writes an op-ed in CH2 Magazine. In it he labels anyone who comments on any element of the arts project before the committee report is prepared as “(someone who) knows the price of everything and the value of nothing.”

Then, perhaps in reaction to Mary Ann Peeples’ letter to The Packet decrying Honey Horn as a possible arts center venue, a committee member was forced to walk back comments he made based on information from an unnamed party in the know.

Plus, we learn of the three audits now planned, one must be done by outside experts. If outside expertise is needed, why does it not make sense to focus that on a group — the Hilton Head Island-Bluffton Chamber of Commerce — that refuses to release financial data, even after losing its suit over a legitimate FOI request? Why spend town dollars as “payback” for the sheriff’s support of public safety in the proposed Ironman triathlon on Hilton Head?

What happened to “transparency” and common sense?
