Letter: Teaching respect begins at home

This is in response to the story “Beaufort parent says teacher told son ‘go back’ to Africa,” and specifically this comment:

“My son is 14 years old, a freshman at Battery Creek. This teacher is supposed to be an educator. He’s supposed to teach him better.”

The teacher is paid to teach the student the 3 Rs. The parents are supposed to teach the child manners and respect. Parents are the one who are supposed to “teach him better.” If respect for country and others does not start at home, it does not take root.
