Letter: Boundary Street, sales tax arrogant

Despite the calls for stopping the Boundary Street folly and despite letters to the editor reflecting the ongoing public opinion, we, the residents of Beaufort, are stuck with the fact that we are half pregnant and looking at a gestation period of more than two years.

Two years of putting up with ongoing inconveniences and impacts on businesses along the corridor. Add to that the track records of projects that never are completed on time and within budget.

This is nothing more than arrogance on the part of our so-called leadership and their total disregard for the citizens’ wishes and/or opinions. It is just another attempt to justify spending money when there are more important issues that need to be addressed.

Speaking of other issues, an article on April 21 discussed options for spending the sales tax increase when in fact the increase has not been approved. None of these options would make me want to vote for the tax increase on the November ballot.

There have been numerous letters in your paper opposing the arts center on Hilton Head Island and I agree with those opinions. The other items listed make no sense either. Once again, our leadership cannot wait to get their hands on more of our money.
