Letter: Gas tax shows political problems

A recent letter to the Packet described the reason state Sen. Tom Davis of Beaufort opposed the increased gas tax to improve our state roads. The writer is precisely correct as is the opposition by Davis.

The recently founded American Party made up of people from across the political spectrum has as one of its basic tenets that government should be from the center. That is, legislation should be for the good of all our citizens.

The writer points out that a few powerful members of the legislature make sure most of the appropriated money is spent in their home districts.

This is a perfect example of the corruption that takes place when legislators become entrenched.

The American Party is seeking to recruit people who would challenge these people at the ballot box. Many of them are unopposed in every election. This needs to change.
