Letter: Revisiting the ‘Big Lie’

In a recent column, the chair of the Beaufort County Democratic Party contends that although it was against department policy for Hillary Clinton to establish a personal email account for State Department business, it is no big deal because, in his words, this was “consistent with what previous secretaries and other senior government officials have done.”

What Blaine Lotz fails to identify until the end of his piece, and in the most subtle manner possible, is that not only did Clinton establish a personal email account, but at the same time took the unprecedented step of establishing her own separate private server system to send and receive sensitive government communication.

In his zest to provide political cover for Clinton, he offers that she has admitted that these steps were “a mistake” but gives the reader no possible explanation as to why these actions were taken in the first place. The fact that her server was or was not hacked is not really the point; the fact that she knowingly placed any sensitive government information in harm’s way, speaks volumes about her character and judgment.

The most stunning assertion in this column is that apparently anyone who might have the temerity to question Clinton’s approach to handling sensitive government communication, could be accused of engaging in “McCarthyism.”

Tell that to the professionals at the Justice Department and Federal Bureau of Investigation, who presumably are conducting an investigation of her actions in a fair and impartial manner.
