Letter: They’re all after the consumer

Wow, a triple whammy in a matter of days.

We received mailings from Beaufort-Jasper Water and Sewer Authority telling us that (a) we better buy insurance for the water line coming into our house; and, (b) we better buy insurance for the sewer line leaving our house. What next, we asked ourselves?

Well, thanks to your story, we found out — Internet anti-virus protection. Our ISP (Hargray) does not protect us, and apparently they may allow in germs so we have to buy “protection.”

This is quite a season we are having in the Lowcountry because my car insurance skyrocketed, as did my homeowner’s insurance. No accidents, no claims; I guess my regular payments tipped them off that I am loaded with cash and would love to pay them more.

But I digress from our public utilities, BJWSA and Hargray. So private enterprise works for them but not for me? I want some competition in the marketplace. Bernie and Donald, take notice of us in the Lowcountry. As we say in Italian, Aiuta! Help!
