Letter: Driverless and blameless

Think about this. Every driverless vehicle will always be driving the speed limit (GPS-controlled). All occupants can now order groceries, buy shoes, call for a tee time, Facebook, text, or talk without fear. We would not need laws for DUI convictions and patrols for speeders (freeing up more police for foot patrols).

And best of all, we will not need vehicle insurance since we are not in control of the vehicle. All the blame would fall on the technology creator and the vehicle builder. We now become the ultimate blameless society for car accidents. We just saved a ton of money and benefited climate control using less petroleum products, cutting down on hydro carbons.

There are probably a ton more possible ways to save, but I would like to see how others respond to the possibility of driverless cars.
