Letter: GOP’s fight should be against socialism

Listening to the rhetoric of the Republican leadership regarding Donald Trump, it occurs to me that they should be campaigning for their preferred Republican candidates.

Instead, they spend their time tearing down the leading candidate and saying they will refuse to vote for him if he is nominated.

It appears they are paving the way for the second worst candidate in history to be elected and finish turning this country into a socialist government.

It is strange that some are so intent on converting the greatest country in history to socialism they forget history, which proved the devastation that socialist governments wreaked on Russia and Germany prior to and during World War II.

If these people were interested in improving and caring for our country, they would get behind their preferred Republican candidate rather than pave the way to socialism.

Socialism means a larger, more expensive government that is more involved in our personal lives and less in protecting our individual rights.

I believe that virtually any Republican candidate would be preferable to Hillary Clinton, given the things that can be proven in her background. It has been shown many times that she is not trustworthy and can be relied on to serve her own needs ahead of just about anyone’s.

Further, I find it strange that an avowed socialist was allowed to run as a Democrat with no questions asked. It seems to me that this proves that it is now the Democratic/Socialist Party and has little to do with democracy.
