Letter: Conservatives hide behind ‘politically correct’
Conservatives use the concept of “politically correct” to drive their hidden concerns and agenda, aided by the corporate media empire that is almost exclusively owned by conservative major corporations.
Here are some examples of what they call “politically correct,” but is really their desire for greed and power over what is best for the country:
▪ Disparage federal government regulation: What they really want is to pollute the environment and gouge consumers as much as possible all for enhancing profit.
▪ Freedom to use public land: Cheer the Bundys for taking on the government rather than calling it what it is, armed sedition against the United States and another ploy to exploit public lands for profit.
▪ Gun control: Hide behind the Second Amendment rather than admit they need and worship guns because they fear anyone not like them.
▪ Climate change science is wrong: Just a guise to protect the fossil fuel industry and their wealthy supporters.
▪ Disparage voting rights activists: Distort the minuscule numbers of actual fraud in order to win elections through voter-suppression laws.
▪ Federal oversight vs. states rights: What they really want is to allow the states to disenfranchise minorities and others who need government help and protection.
Almost universally, their concerns with being politically correct focus on instilling fear and maximizing profits. In reality, what they deride as “politically correct” actually is the right thing to do.
