Letter: No, a nice, new Harris-Teeter doesn’t fit
Is a new Harris-Teeter inconsistent with the ambiance on Lady’s Island?
I thought about this as I drove from St. Helena past the stripped land for new Walmart, past the new McDonald’s construction and the shuttered old Publix, down the garbage-strewn streets on U.S. 21, past the stripped acreage where 114 new homes will be crammed into what looks like the Gobi desert, and the smelly county-operated garbage dump.
When I got out of what was left of my car after driving down the pot-hole ridden Middle Road, I had to run into the house to escape the ear-breaking sound of F-35’s screaming 500 feet overhead.
I wondered if a nice, new Harris-Teeter, an upscale grocery with popular amenities like a Strabuck’s Coffee shop, really consistent with the Lady’s Island ambiance. Probably not.
