Letter: In America, we are our own enemy

This is in response to David Brooks’s column of Jan. 31 (“GOP needs a social agenda for a nation that’s falling apart”).

Our country is not falling apart. Our country has lost its moorings and is drifting toward the possibility of falling apart. This has happened to nations since the dawn of recorded history.

Bread and circuses, promiscuity, slothfulness, love of self, and godlessness will bring down any empire. That’s a description of what is occurring today in our nation. We are our own enemies.

Anyone who wants to opt out of a lifestyle that brings no happiness might try thumbing through the Bible. As a Christian, this writer believes it’s God’s handbook for living life. “Life in the fullest” as Jesus promises.
