Letter: Laws on trailers must be tightened

Have you ever been behind a trailer at night, in the rain, when it either has no tail lights or somebody was too lazy to hook the lights up? As they move from lane to lane, you have no warning, because they are blocking the lights of the vehicle towing them.

Have you ever experienced debris flying out of a small, open trailer right into your vehicle? Is there a purpose to creating this hazard on our road system?

Why doesn't the state require a license plate for all trailers, require that they be fully road-safe and that they be insured?

Two distinct benefits would follow. Our roads would be much safer, and the state would have another revenue source.

There are numerous small trailers (both open and closed) on the road that are totally unsafe. If there is an incident, there is no plate for reporting violations, especially at night.
