Letter: Freedom of press not a joking matter

Thanks to David Lauderdale for calling out state Rep. Mike Pitts for his bill to register journalists. Even if he now says it was to punk journalists and he was only kidding, it was worse than stupid.

When South Carolina has a failing road system and a court-ordered remodel of its schools pending, a bill like this is not only unnecessary but counterproductive. Pitts needs to get serious about doing the job he was elected for or get out.

We all read letters in this paper we either agree or disagree with, but there should be no disagreement on our own, or journalists', ability to write freely.
