Letter: County should not close trash centers

I am aghast that Beaufort County is proposing the closing of the trash and recycling convenience centers in 2020.

In my opinion, the county knew for years that many of the smaller and outdated centers were not cost-efficient. Why wasn't any effort made to modernize the larger centers that are used by the majority of citizens in the county?

Why weren't smaller centers closed and consolidated with the larger ones?

Has the county considered outsourcing the centers to private companies and instituting a designated tax for that specific purpose?

This stinks! No pun intended.
