Letter: Obamacare primarily redistributes wealth

Your Jan. 14 editorial cartoon perpetuates a mistake that has been repeated so often that it is now accepted as fact. It says "care" when it means "insurance."

The cartoon showed President Obama bragging that record numbers have health care. But Obamacare has not increased the numbers with health care; it has only increased numbers with insurance.

It has taken those who had Medicaid for their health care, which incidentally was totally free to those with low incomes, and provided them with free health insurance; it's free since the premiums are now paid by others.

In reality, Obamacare has had very little, or no effect, on care. It is all about more people now having insurance, and with the wealthier now paying for much of that insurance, Obamacare's primary effect on citizens is simply the redistribution of wealth.

That redistribution includes families of four with incomes under $90,000, which are now also eligible for pro-rated financial assistance toward their premiums. Is it all part of the fundamental transformation of the nation that he promised?
