Letter: Nurse practitioners can speak for selves

It is curious to me why you would have an article explaining what nurse practitioners do written by a physician. It seems to me the ones who should be educating the public are the nurse practitioners themselves.

We are governed by our own licensing board and have our own lobby in Congress. We have an abundance of research supporting our practice standards. In many states, nurse practitioners practice independently.

Hopefully, South Carolina will become more progressive to meet the health care demand. Nurse practitioners provide a gold standard of care that is patient-centered.
