Letter: Litter shows that people don't care

I want to thank the person who sent the letter about roadside litter in the Gray's Hill area. As we elders remember, Beaufort was called "Beautiful Beaufort by the sea, 28 miles from Yemassee."

You can bet that kind of slogan will never happen again. Why? Because we have people in positions that all they want to do is tear up the land and build, build. It doesn't do any good to contact the county about litter. It is a waste of breath and time.

If it weren't for the people who volunteer from the military bases, and other establishments, to pick up litter, it would be a disaster. Just like when the county changed the hours on the trash convenience centers and was shown it didn't work as the residents proved that.

Maybe chain gangs need to be put back in place, or make the prisoners earn the paycheck that they are drawing and sitting on their duff. Of course the county doesn't have money for that because it's all about tourism.

People just don't care, and that is sad.
