Letter: Sheriff Tanner made right call on Ironman triathlon highway closing

Beaufort County Sheriff P.J. Tanner was right to not close U.S. 278 for the Ironman triathlon.

The closing of U.S. 278 for an extended period would have been a very bad idea. There are too many daily ambulance runs that rely on U.S. 278 for getting people help in a timely manner. Putting the local population at risk for the sake of another tourist event makes poor sense.

Thank you, sheriff. You got it right.
