Letter: Tell complete story of offshore drilling

The pimps for the offshore drilling crowd love to talk about out-of-sight oil rigs and "jobs" -- dirty, dangerous jobs that will go to out-of-state, experienced riggers. And the oil and gas will be sold overseas, enriching only oil companies and politicians.

They don't mention the oil and gas pipelines and storage facilities that always follow and destroy the land, water and air. Or the spilled oil in the marshes, gas burning off 24/7 and canals cut through the wetlands. Or the pipelines, heavy trucks day and night, and the smells of industry. Or the dead oaks lining the streets, palmettos wilted in the caustic air, and oily sea birds lying on the beaches.

Why don't you print pictures and stories of the Gulf Coast spills and destruction? Or the hundreds of oil rigs in the Gulf of Mexico now abandoned and leaking? A picture will be worth a thousand words. And no one wants to hang a picture of an oily pelican on their wall.
