Letter: Refugee rationale hard to understand

I am having difficulty figuring out some people's rationale against refugees from Syria, so perhaps a reader of this letter would be so kind as to enlighten me.

Here is the problem: Many people, especially members of far right organizations and some members on the right side of the political spectrum, are dead set against allowing refugees from Syria under the pretext that, in spite of extensive vetting, they would endanger members of our society.

What I don't understand is these same people absolutely refuse to take any action that would slow down the mass killings being done by Americans who hold extremist views and who are already in our society.

What is it that makes native born terrorists less of an endangerment than vetted Syrian refugees? I just don't get it.
