Letter: Simple nepotism rules that pass smell test

Since it appears the Beaufort County Board of Education cannot agree on the nepotism rules, this simple man will help you along:

The superintendent and/or administrators will not have spouses working as administrators. Principals and assistant principals, if married, will not be allowed to work in the same school. Married teachers may work in the same school with the consent of the superintendent/school board (vote must be on record).

All other married staff can work in the same schools with consent of the principals.

The superintendent's spouse, and administrators' spouses, can do consulting work for the school system but not to exceed 120 days in a fiscal year with a salary not to exceed $60,000, including all compensation (cost of living, per diem, benefits, etc.), which the school board must vote on to approve.

Clearly, with these rules, all have the opportunity to work, and it should pass the smell test. I'm not a lawyer, but it doesn't stop anyone from getting employment.

Oh, yeah. Here's a novel idea: How about getting employment in another district?
