Letter: Shunning refugees shows the hypocrites

There is something very pathetic and tragic when presidential candidates and U.S. governors turn their backs on 10,000 Syrian refugees who are fleeing for their lives and seeking refuge in this country. No surprise, though, not when they turned their backs on millions of their own constituents by not expanding Medicaid. We are a nation of immigrants, and as such we should be ashamed that we are not requesting 10 times that number of refugees.

Most of our presidential candidates and governors consider themselves Christians, but they don't even know what the word Christian means. Apparently they believe, if Christ were here today, he would advise our government leaders to reject these Syrian refugees. He would ask, "Why subject the people of this country to the potential of possible harm? Let your allies and other countries shoulder the responsibility. The United States has already done enough with its weapons and bombs."

They apparently believe he would also ask why on earth, as suggested by some, you would want to provide health care to all of your citizens. Just pray for them. But you probably shouldn't replace your own health care insurance with just prayers.

Surely they also believe when Christ said, "Whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me," he was just kidding, and we should never take what he has said literally.

Join with them, and by all means lend your support to these hypocrites.
