Letter: One good example for the holiday season

Hooray for Nordstrom. It got it right when it announced that Christmas decorations (that's Christmas, not Xmas) would not go up until after Thanksgiving.

Someone finally got it right that Thanksgiving, perhaps the most significant holiday on the American calendar, should be celebrated on its own.

For too many years, the commercial interests have glided right past our giving thanks for the privilege of living in the greatest country in the world, all for the almighty dollar. There's little money to be made in turkey and cranberry sauce.

Hopefully in the future other merchants will find that there is little profit to be made in early decorations, and that Thanksgiving must again be celebrated on its own. We must show our gratitude, independent of commercial trappings.
