Letter: Register SC trailers for safety and revenue

Being that South Carolina needs money for road repairs, reconstruction and safety, I would suggest that it start requiring registration and safety checks of trailers.

The trailers on rigs on Interstate 95 are exemplary in that they are registered, insured and well lit with brake and directional lights that really work. These small and sometimes not-so-small work trailers used by contractor pickup trucks don't have working lights, and they have no tags and give the appearance of not even being insured. They should not be allowed on the road and are particularly dangerous at night.

This is the first state we have lived in that doesn't require registration and insurance and lights on trailers. Instead of raising gas taxes, consider requiring trailer registration.
