Letter: More gun control not the right answer
"When will this madness end?" was asked. Not as long as people look for the government to control our lives and not look at common-sense solutions.
"Guns don't kill people. People do." There is nothing stupid in that statement. Guns don't kill people any more than knives kill people, cars kill people, etc.
"Why not control the ammunition?" With this logic, I suppose we should ban the use of all knives and stop the manufacture of same. Or perhaps we could just manufacture the handles and make it mandatory to get a permit for the blades.
How about cars? People get drunk or high on drugs and kill many people while driving. How will we control that? For one thing, perhaps the government can make them take weekly or monthly drug tests and, if they come up positive, the government can take possession of their cars. Ditto if they are ever cited for DUI.
Why is it that the cities that have the strictest gun control have the most violence? And why is it that the cities that do not have a high rate of gun control have a much lower rate of violence? Why don't people ever think about that? "How totally stupid can anyone get?"
