Letter: Viral stories still need to be solid journalism
The front-page article concerning a young woman's angst over Beaufort County school dress codes and/or misogyny reflects very poor journalistic policy.
Regardless of the merits of her diatribe, there is no justification for your newspaper to provide someone with a megaphone to hurl allegations that have not been substantiated.
She now enjoys undeserved notoriety, and her teachers and school administrators face public criticism and/or ridicule without a means to respond. Facebook is an appropriate place to publish such material -- your newspaper is not.
