Letter: School district cannot be trusted
After 15 years of participating in the Beaufort County School District as a parent of two students, a volunteer, and a taxpayer, it's disappointing that this week's headline is another reminder that the education of our children cannot be entrusted to the administration.
Whether it is schedules, school uniforms, trailers for overcrowding, redistricting or unethical behavior, district resources and students' precious time are wasted time and again due to the lack of leadership and clear focus on the classroom. This churn directly impacts the quality and morale of the educational environment for the students and the teachers.
School board chairman Bill Evans stated that he wants us to judge based on performance. So to that end, I commend the only two board members who spoke out questioning the superintendent's actions: Michael Rivers and JoAnn Orischak. The remaining board members either supported Superintendent Jeff Moss' questionable actions or were silent. It is interesting that the only action that occurred regarding personnel was Mrs. Moss' resignation. The board remained idle.
It is time to hold the district and school board leadership to the same standards we teach our students. The greatest lesson learned from this current saga is that we need to be vigilant when it involves the education of our children. We are not merely disgruntled parents with a grudge. Until that lesson is understood at the district offices, they will never receive a passing grade.
