Letter: Pitts' logic twisted on candidates' remarks
But he knows well when Donald Trump said, "We're going to be looking at a lot of different things," he was merely blowing off a wacko in the audience. And when Ben Carson said, "I would not advocate that we put a Muslim in charge of this nation," he meant it would be problematic because they do not agree with our Constitution.
Pitts asks, "Land of the free, except for Muslims?" That is the wrong question since Muslims do not seek freedom and instead embrace a political-religious ideology at odds with it.
What we say does indeed reflect the type of country we want to be. And it is dangerous to disparage those who defend freedom in deference to those who would abolish it.
