Letter: Moss must be fired to earn school trust
One thing I learned during my 47 years as an educator is that teaching and learning require trust.
Students must trust their teachers. Parents and community members must trust their schools. Teaching professionals must trust their designated leaders. Distrust in any of these areas inhibits effort, collaboration and effective instruction.
Superintendent Jeff Moss' recent behavior (rule changing, job redefinition, and selective forgetting -- all to enable his wife's employment) has irreparably made him untrustworthy.
Therefore, the Beaufort County Board of Education should take immediate steps to remove him from office so that trust can be restored throughout the system.
The board's responsibility to students, parents, teachers and citizens requires this action. It is, unfortunately, the only option.
