Letter: Use nepotism money for classroom instruction

As a former educator, I know nepotism when I see it.

Beaufort County School District Superintendent Jeff Moss and his wife have been enriching themselves for years at taxpayer expense. In our case it is through the creation of a silly, made-up position for her as "director of innovation." What? Just what does that mean? What innovations would Mrs. Moss make and in what? There is a lot of unsupervised mischief possible under such a broad job title.

Regardless of the tinkering with the language in the nepotism clause by the superintendent himself, the intent is clear. Both must go now, and the Board of Education should use their salaries to improve classroom, hands-on learning by the students under the tutelage of their classroom teachers who really know what is going on.

Forget "innovation." It seems students all across this country could benefit from rigorous instruction in the good old basics so our students would no longer place behind China and other countries in academic achievement. Redirecting such princely salaries would go a long way toward the students' direct benefit.
