Readers react to the question: Will Beaufort tree proposals discourage development?
With the growth in the area, companies and homeowners will work with these tree proposals. Obviously, anyone is going to try to negotiate a better deal for themselves. They might say this makes things more difficult. If they do and threaten not to move in, stand firm. The beauty is what is driving the value up. The trees and the scenery is what make people want to be here. Making it easier to remove that is only going to hurt in the long run. Let's keep things as natural as possible. Marc Dittle
This is just another way to make money!!! No one is going to cut the trees down!!! It would destroy the value of their property!!! The county and the city need to give property owners a break!! It's gotten so bad in Beaufort trying to protect the trees a hurricane is starting to sound good!!!!! Quit with all the control and understand people are not cutting trees down to destroy their property values!!! It's just another plan to increase the general fund and put more red tape in the process of building! Roxanne McCrackin
It is doubtful that this will deter responsible development. Many developers strive to compliment the landscape, not strip it. Most understand the marketability of trees in our area, cutting them down isn't in their best interests 90 percent of the time. Encouraging growth that maintains the integrity of our landscape, our area and our quality of life, is necessary for a healthy economy. Cherimie Crane Weatherford
I vote for the trees. Developers can just work around that; they will still make money. Andrew Lyons
