Ownership not clear Palmetto Dunes story

A Jan. 23 story announced the acquisition of Dunes Marketing Group by Greenwood Communities and Resorts and included the statement "Greenwood Communities and Resorts Inc., which owns the Palmetto Dunes Oceanfront Resort on Hilton Head Island ..."

In 1979, Greenwood Development, now Greenwood Communities and Resorts, acquired ownership of the undeveloped property in Palmetto Dunes. On Jan. 1, 2006, pursuant to a 2002 agreement, ownership of all common areas within Palmetto Dunes Resort, including the 11-mile lagoon system, nine tide gates, roads, guard gates, pedestrian and vehicular bridges, leisure paths, ocean access paths and dune crossovers, was transferred to the Palmetto Dunes Property Owners Association.

Since then, the property owners association, representing our more than 2,000 property owner and members, has invested millions of dollars in improving and enhancing our infrastructure, making Palmetto Dunes a showcase community for those who live here and our visitors.

Greenwood remains one of 12 commercial property owners within Palmetto Dunes, along with Marriott's Oceanfront Resort, Hilton Oceanfront Resort, Disney Beach Club, Alexander's and others.

Hopefully, this letter will enable your readers to better understand the operation and ownership of Palmetto Dunes Oceanfront Resort, a vibrant community operated by its owners for the benefit of all who live here and all who visit our home.

We congratulate Greenwood Communities and Resorts on its acquisition of Dunes Marketing Group.
