Jerry Lewis deserves Kennedy Center Honor

Every year, the president awards a group of entertainers the Kennedy Center Honors medallions. This award is presented to recognize their contribution to this country. For the most part -- not all, but most -- their contributions amounted to them feathering their own nests.

Why has Jerry Lewis been so conspicuously ignored? He has dedicated the past 60 years to the Muscular Dystrophy Association. His work has been a year-round effort that has raised billions of dollars for "his kids." The MDA charity has never had a hint of scandal, yet reports of Lewis' efforts are delegated to section C in newspapers and completely ignored by officials. And now Lewis has been unceremoniously dumped from the MDA telethon.

Anyone who has had a family member or friend struck by this dreadful disease realizes Lewis' value and, in their hearts, Jerry Lewis will never walk alone.
