Is it just me, or is the world crazy? | Letters
After reading the Packet lately I can’t help adding my craziness to it. Is it me or do a great number of letter writers or persons quoted seem to have no sense of humor and absolutely no understanding of satire. For a long time, I’ve thought it was just my older sister, a retired school teacher and Democrat, who had no sense of logic.
I read the tourist season is lost because of opened bars, restaurants, shops, and beaches. The governor doesn’t understand how dumb the citizens are. If I wear a mask or choose not to put myself in harm’s way I can still catch the virus. Before the virus, restaurants never spread diseases. The president is a Russian asset only in this for the money and to live in a mansion called the White House. We will improve the quality of police by reducing their salaries.
The latest greatest is Antifa is a loose group of young, wealthy, concerned citizens expressing their legal rights to protest against wealthy people. I say wealthy because they, for several decades, have traveled across America without subsidies for room and board, peacefully breaking windows, burning buildings, etc. Billionaires funding the KKK could not be named apparently because of limitations on the number of words allowed in letters.
Still crazy after all these years!

Society needs to really pray
It’s time. It’s past time. It’s over time. Truly, it is time to stop and pray. Really pray. For everyone. Many of you are already praying and have been since March and even before that.
People who are sick. People who differ from us. For the grieving. For our world and our nation. Pray for an enemy. Pray for forgiveness. Humble prayer. Grateful prayer. Peaceful prayer.
Let’s all get behind one unifying action. Prayer. Prayer for one another no matter what political party, race, religion, economic status, age, mental, or physical capability.
Please, let’s ask for all good things for one another. Just for a moment – a moment of grace.

Mixed emotions on retirement
I felt strong mixed emotions when I read about David Lauderdale’s plan to retire.
A great part of this Hilton Head Island’s heritage will soon be lost. David has always lived, breathed and loved Hilton Head. He has known everyone who has made a contribution to our town, knew every event that took place and all the news angles that affected us. Then with his views, his wit and his sense of humor he would communicate his thoughts in the most entertaining ways.
I will miss my weekly Lauderdale fix. I am so happy that David will now have the chance to enjoy his life away from the stress, the deadlines and the computer screens that ruled his life for so long. We will miss you, David. Best fishes ...

Compliments on job well done
Best wishes and compliments to David Lauderdale on a job well done.
He has chronicled Beaufort’s remarkable growth and prosperity for the past four decades with grace and humor. His compiled work is a springboard for the next generation of historians and journalists. Who could ask for anything more?
