Bill Evans put children first on Beaufort County Board of Education | Letters
In December 2019, a bright light was dimmed with the passing of a distinguished educator, William McClellan (“Bill”) Evans. I was moved by his inspiring and heartfelt memorial service.
I will always remember Bill as a mentor, friend, a dedicated principal who impacted his schools with creative and caring leadership, and a great supporter of students and teachers.
Bill and I served together on the Beaufort County Board of Education. I was inspired by his thoughtful leadership. I am indebted to him for how he strived relentlessly to guide all board members toward a special understanding of keeping “children first” in our decision-making.
Bill Evans’ big heart and giving will be missed by many in the Beaufort County community. Rest in peace, Bill. “May God hold you in the palm of His hand.”

Perry White’s passing leaves a void on Hilton Head
On Monday, December 23, we will honor the life and work of Perry White, who passed from this life last Wednesday.
I knew and worked with Perry for many, many years. He was a man of God, a deacon of St. James Baptist Church, a husband, a father, a grandfather, a great-grandfather, a veteran, and a pillar of the Gullah-Geechee community of Beaufort County and of the Town of Hilton Head Island.
Perry’s passing will leave a void in our community. He was a great asset to Hilton Head, and especially to the local Gullah-Geechee community.
My life is richer because of my friendship with Perry. I will miss him.

Trump works hard for America
I watched President Donald Trump’s rally in Battle Creek, Michigan, as the split screen on the TV showed the results of the House of Representatives vote on impeachment. What a contrast of viewpoints. In my view, it is the 230 congressional representatives who voted for impeachment that are out of touch.
Here is why I support President Trump: I have seven grandchildren and America is still a country where a young person can learn, grow and succeed. Trump is working hard to keep the dream alive for the next generation.
When I entered the workforce, “Made in America” was on most products. Several companies that I became involved with over my career were: The Aluminum Company of America, Babcock & Wilcox; Mobil Oil, Combustion Engineering and Westinghouse Electric Corporation. All of these in 1962 were in the top Fortune 200 companies.
In the 1970s, North Carolina and South Carolina manufactured textiles and furniture for world export. Carolina textiles and furniture were the envy of the world. This story is the same all across America as American industries were gutted by excessive regulations and unfair trade policies by past presidents.
Decades of excessive regulations and anti-business policies weakened America. Trump is the first president in my lifetime working to put America back to work producing world-class products.
Trump gave up a privileged lifestyle to work hard serving us. I appreciate his service to America and the good results he is leading us to achieve. Thank you, Mr. Trump for working hard to keep America great.

U.S. Rep. Joe Cunningham did brave thing
U.S. Rep. Joe Cunningham did a brave and laudable thing — he voted his conscience, his values, and his integrity by saying “yes” to impeaching this president. He may have risked his reelection. He waited until the last minute to decide, to see if anything would be revealed to change his mind. He can look himself in the mirror without flinching; he can hold his head high.
This is the kind of representative I want for my district. As a constituent, I appreciate Cunningham’s regular updates, the bills he has sponsored and his consistent transparency as a politician and as a person. I don’t always agree with him, but I’m proud to have an honest, hardworking person as my congressional representative. He has my vote.

For the whole family?
Your ad for “Kiss Me, Kate” says it is “a play-within-a-play where former husband and wife ... ignite a fiery chemistry onstage and off. Fabulous entertainment for the whole family ...”
Doesn’t sound like something for the kids.
