How to fix Hilton Head Island-Bluffton Chamber of Commerce issue | Letters

There’s an easy fix to the problem with the lack of transparency by the Hilton Head Island-Bluffton Chamber of Commerce. In future contracts, with whomever gets our dollars, include a mandatory provision on accounting and reporting. If the Chamber doesn’t want to agree to this, then let’s pick an organization that will. Spending over $3 million and having no transparency is ridiculous.

Progress with Hilton Head Island-Bluffton Chamber

The lengthy back and forth between the Town of Hilton Head Island and the Hilton Head Island-Bluffton Chamber of Commerce over transparency of taxpayer dollars appears to be finally moving forward.

Ward 5 Councilmen Tom Lennox needs to be commended for recommending the scrapping of the automatic five-year renewal of the Chamber marketing contract. It appears a solution that will prove beneficial to the taxpayers is finally within reach.

Suggestion on drug costs

I understand that drug companies have to make a profit, but to make most of their profit from only certain drugs causes a heavy monetary burden on really sick people.

If they raised the price of aspirin by a few cents, no one would really feel the pressure and they could make up for some of the profit they need. They don’t have to get it all from just a few drugs.

They have to do research so they do need profit to continue to do research. I’ll pay more for my aspirin, Tums, etc., to help out people who need more expensive drugs.

Impeachment hearings bogus

I am not taking anyone’s side – Democrat or Republican – in the recent impeachment hearings. If the shoe was on the other foot, the Republicans would likely do the same thing.

For political parties, it is all about the power. Influence peddling in government and politics (à la campaign contributions), is nothing short of “legalized corruption.” A sign should be posted in every government building: “He who is without sin, cast the first stone!” But we often find a “rock” concert going on, instead.

I learned a valuable lesson in communications during the fourth impeachment hearing: After U.S. Rep. André Carson, D-Indiana, read aloud a statement made by one of the two witnesses, he inadvertently attributed those words to the wrong witness.

So what does this tell you about the reliability of communications when a member of the Democrat’s own impeachment team could not get it straight? Carson also referred to David Hale as “Mr. Cooper.” Did he understand the seriousness of trying to remove a duly-elected president from office?

And then there was U.S. Rep. Adam Schiff’s reference to the “three amigos.” Try “googling” these same words with “Albany” included.

After all the testimony was given at these impeachment hearings, there were no deliberations. There did not have to be. Chairman Schiff, as the judge, jury and executioner, made his own finding of guilt. As if he really needed these hearings to do so. Champions of “democracy” at work.
