Kicked out of restaurant? Surely we are better than this

I was appalled by the restaurateur asking Sarah Huckabee Sanders to leave her establishment. It appears some of her employees needed a “safe space” as they were gay and Mrs. Sanders had defended the president’s desire to bar transgender people from the military, among other unforgivable sins.

Having never been to Lexington, Va., much less to the restaurant (The Red Hen), I know nothing about the town; however, if the restaurant owner is any example of the folks in that area, I don’t believe I am missing much.

I’d be interested in her opinion of the baker who refused to prepare a wedding cake for a gay couple. Refusing service to people based on their sexual orientation, their color, nationality, or even what they do for a living (such as Mrs. Sanders) is not only stupid, but it’s really bad business.

I guess Mrs. Sanders can rejoice that she wasn’t in a Starbucks where the manager might call 911. Surely we can do better than this.
