All must speak up to prevent SC offshore drilling
I am writing to agree with the recent letter sent by David Taub regarding offshore drilling. However, I would add this: we must all raise our voices in opposition, not just our legislators. The reasons for opposing drilling are many: protection of wildlife, our beautiful coastline, and our ocean-related economy.
A public comment period is open until March 9. Go to https://www.boem.gov/National-Program-Comment/ to find out how to submit a comment, and to understand the types of comments that have the most impact.
A public meeting will be held on Feb. 13 from 3 to 7 p.m. in Columbia at the Doubletree hotel at 2100 Bush River Road. This is a drop-in style meeting where you can meet with officials to ask questions and express your opinion.
I would encourage everyone who loves our beaches, makes a living on our waters, and loves the variety of beautiful wildlife we have here in South Carolina to write a comment, go to the meeting, or both.
I would echo Mr. Taub in encouraging you to contact both South Carolina and federal legislators and let them know you are opposed to drilling off our coast.
If we don’t speak up, who will?
