Disdain for Trump by Tom Hanks, Meryl Streep disgusting
I inadvertently happened to watch a late-night program on public television. It was an interview with Tom Hanks and Meryl Streep about their latest movie: “The Post.”
The discussion was about how these two splendid actors were able to capture the appearance and the mannerisms of the main characters in the movie. However, the conversation quickly turned to President Donald Trump. Hanks, in a supercilious tone, began sneering and demeaning the president. Of course, they began salivating on the idea that Oprah Winfrey was going to be the next president.
What struck me was the total lack of civility and the superior attitude, particularly of Hanks. He portrayed his utter disdain for Trump and conservatives and, being an actor, he was able to do that with aplomb.
I was disgusted, and dismissed the program as another socialist diatribe.
Consider that capitalism and American ingenuity have made these two actors very wealthy ... the very system that they abhor. Yes, they are very talented people. But they are merely actors and do not contribute materially to the betterment of America and yet they think, along with the rest of the Hollywood “aristocrats,” that are so superior to everyone else.
The First Amendment protects Hanks’ right to be rude, but it would show character if he were to spend his own wealth to publicize his opinions rather than deigning to use public television. I ask him to please take notice of one his characters: “Stupid is as stupid does.”
