Raise many voices against offshore drilling
Last week our state senator, Tom Davis, gave testimony before Congress in opposition to the ill-crafted and poorly conceived federal policy to open the waters of the East Coast to unabated drilling. We are fortunate to have such a well-informed, honorable and courageous protector of our precious patrimony.
In Sunday’s edition, you published a succinct and straightforward description of the manifold reasons why this policy should be rescinded, written by Davis. Clear, well-reasoned, and professional. Virtues we should expect from all our elected officials, but too often are left lacking. Not so with Tom. We have come to expect no less from him and are rarely disappointed.
I encourage everyone to write to Tom to lend your support to him for his brave opposition to this misguided and potentially disastrous government intrusion into our treasured backyard. It is only when the citizenry raises its collective voice in opposition that we can stop these misguided forces from laying waste to our pristine water resources.
One need only visit the Port Royal Sound Foundation office and maritime center on S.C. 170 to gain an understanding of how important — ecologically, economically and recreationally — these irreplaceable waterways are to our way of life.
Tom has taken a leadership role in this critically important battle; let us support him with our voices of outrage. And thank him for all he does to protect our priceless heritage.
