Voter ID no threat to the republic
I was excited to read in the headline of the Washington Post’s editorial reprinting the Democrat party’s talking points on voter fraud (“Trump’s voter fraud panel is gone, but the threat isn’t”). I naturally assumed that the threat referred to was the threat to our democracy posed by voter fraud. But it turns out that the “threats” that the Post frets about are voter identification and the “weaponization” of the federal bureaucracy.
Apparently, it’s fine to require photo IDs to board an airplane, drive a car, or buy alcohol, but it’s unreasonable to require photo IDs to vote. However, 80 percent of Americans (per a Gallup poll in August 2016) favor voter ID. I guess the vast majority of Americans just aren’t as wise as the editorial board of the Post.
Unsurprisingly, it doesn’t seem to bother the Post that the Obama administration weaponized the IRS against conservative groups and the FBI to protect Hillary Clinton and her posse from prosecution for their felonies. Apparently, using the federal bureaucracy to harass political opponents and to cover up crimes by liberal politicians is A-OK, but using the bureaucracy to prosecute actual crimes is a threat to the republic. Thanks for that insight.
The bottom line is that the bloated, out-of-control, unaccountable, “deep state” bureaucracy has too much power, regardless of who controls the executive branch. Returning the role of the federal government to conducting foreign affairs, providing for national defense, and protecting personal and property rights is critical. Drain the swamp!
