Check the facts on Obama presidency and the Dow
In your “Rants & Raves” on Monday, Jan. 8, one of the contributors stated: “Did Obama set 75 records on the stock market like Trump has helped to set this past year? Nope, not even close.”
Sorry, but that is wrong. While people are entitled to their own opinions, they are not entitled to their own facts. During the Barack Obama presidency, the Dow reached record highs more than 100 times.
By the way, on the first day of the Obama presidency, the Dow closed at 7949.09 and it closed on the last day of his presidency at 19732.40. For President Donald Trump to achieve the same percentage increase, the Dow will need to be at 48,983 when he leaves office. While I certainly hope that is the case, I am not going to bet the farm on it.
