Here’s my free ‘consulting’ for the school board
I noticed that the Beaufort County Board of Education may hire a consultant to resolve school board petulance. Contrary to popular belief, when it comes to human interactions and economic issues with more than 10 zeroes associated with them, there are no experts, only educated guessers.
That being said, here are my educated guesses/observations:
▪ Beaufort County cannot measure its success against other South Carolina school systems. We cannot be satisfied by being a big fish in a failing pond.
▪ Look at the states and counties that exceed in the U.S., and study them and implement lessons learned. Learning from mediocrity yields mediocrity.
▪ We are an intelligent community but our heads are nowhere to be found (I know where but it cannot be printed). We don’t pay the school board enough to threaten them financially, but a clean sweep at the polls can’t be worse than what we have now.
▪ Superintendent Jeff Moss may be the best thing that has happened to our system, but his maintenance issues far outweigh his positives. He must go.
▪ Above all, our young people are the seeds of our future. Nourish them and ensure they will become the type leaders we so desperately need. Pay teachers, not consultants.
▪ A teacher who convinces kids K-3 that learning/education is fun and exciting is worth more than you can pay any district superintendent or consultant.
▪ Definition of a consultant: Someone who borrows your watch to tell you the time of day then tries to sell your watch back to you.
