Cost of local housing a true dilemma
I consider myself an asset to this community. I am a medically trained massage therapist who has helped many locals and tourists. In consideration, I offer a sliding-scale fee for those who need financial assistance. Of note, I have spent time helping the local homeless, and over the years I have served my community in many ways.
I now find myself in a housing dilemma. I am only in a position to rent, and even the room shares beat people up on price. In fact, I am reminded of the director of an art museum in Aspen who complained she could no longer afford to live near her work. I am beginning to feel that way.
If I leave Hilton Head Island, you will be losing an asset and a figure from history, for I am the flower child, captured on film in front of the Pentagon holding up the flower to the soldiers’ rifles in 1967.
I had hoped to hang on here until I returned to school to get my rabbinical degree in two years. However, I honestly do not know what I will do if things don’t look up.
I put this to all people who might be in a position to offer a room or home at a more gentle price to me and others, for I know I do not suffer alone with this issue.
