‘Trump, the Movie’ has preposterous plot
For the holidays, “Trump, the Movie,” a Netflix original. It’s not very good, what with the bonehead characters, the preposterous plot, the yet-another-golf-course settings, the tawdry denouement — just another amateurish flick about disorganized crime.
It follows the Don as he builds his greatest edifice.
First the site preparation, fastest in history, the 11-month gutting of State, Education, Justice, and Interior departments, bulldozing the EPA, FTC and HUD, some slick dealing on the side, courts stacked, elections corrupted, news media stigmatized, bigots aroused, rich donors coddled, a political party contaminated, and overall grievous damage to both dignity and truth.
Then, with record-breaking speed, out of the rubble rises the edifice, his creation, his eponymous triumph, the Trump Hall of Famous Felons. Accommodations suitable for millionaires. Rooms already occupied by Mike, Paul, George and Rick. Places reserved for Jared, Jeff, Don Jr., Steve, another Mike and lots more. Honorary suites available for visiting autocrats like Recep, Vlad, a Saudi prince or two.
Not for the Don, though. At the end of the movie, “Pardon me,” he says and resigns himself to life on a golf course in Florida.
Previewers abroad left the theater in laughter or in tears at the lunacy of it all. Viewers in America left wondering how to live with a new understanding of themselves as a nation and a people. How did this come to be? Are they all responsible? Do 18 percent of them really believe the sun revolves around the earth?
