For sake of children, Beaufort County Superintendent Jeff Moss must go
Some people are supporting a referendum to increase spending for the Beaufort County School District to build new schools and repair existing ones. Many of the reasons being cited are logical and make sense on an abstract level.
Unfortunately, this issue will be decided by emotions, rather than logic. When Superintendent Jeffrey Moss pleaded guilty to ethics charges, he may have ended the legal peril he was in, but he also terminated any trust he had built with the taxpayers of Beaufort County. Rightly or wrongly, they simply will not authorize more funds to be expended while he is superintendent.
If anyone feels that it is necessary to pass this referendum based on the children’s best interest, have you also considered calling for Moss to resign? It seems to me that, after observing everyone’s comments and watching this issue unfold for over two years now, the only major roadblock is a lack of trust between the taxpaying public and Moss.
Nothing has been done by Moss to restore that trust. Therefore, the only way this will pass is if he resigns.
Would you be willing to call on him to resign for the betterment of our children? You hold passage of this anticipated referendum in you hands. So, ask yourself this: Is it more important for you to have Moss as your superintendent of schools or is it more important to pass this referendum to move the school district forward?
