Extent of Sea Pines Resort expansion is the question
I am one of the Sea Pines property owners whose ballot was invalid.
I have been a paid member of the Association of Sea Pines Plantation Property Owners from 1980 until recently when I realized that I had not received my ballot. I inquired at the CSA office and was told that I had not paid my dues. When shown the address it was sent to, I informed them that my address had changed. I promptly paid my dues and received my ballot and voted. I was notified by email that it was invalid.
I am not opposed to Sea Pines Resort expanding to improve its properties, however the extent is in question. They made a proposal to Community Services Associates and Association of Sea Pines Plantation Property Owners and it was accepted without any input from residents.
When the resort realized that referendum was in danger of not getting the needed votes, it removed it from the table. The resort claims that the signatures it received from property owners for the referendum are a positive indication, however, when I spoke to about 10 people who signed it, they said they were not aware on all the changes.
Many board members serve on both boards, and most feel it is a conflict of interest. A new alliance has been trying to bring all the issues to the forefront so that all of us can be fully informed. ASPPPO has seen fit to undermine any efforts to improve relations and be fully transparent.
We should be a community with a resort, not a resort with a community.
