Giving Beaufort County school board money unwise
The Beaufort County Board of Education is planning a referendum on a 1 percent sales tax. Its meetings are full of childish vitriol and discord and police presence has been requested. There is even controversy over the prevailing student numbers and projections that justify the referendum. They cannot even agree on whether or not to open or close the door to the meetings.
To give this challenged group millions of dollars of new monies seems to me unwise in the extreme. Or, would it be a better peacekeeping overture to go for a 2 percent tax? That way each faction could happily spend its own piece of the pie.
