Fair plan exists for Jerusalem

President Donald Trump never stated in his recent speech why our embassy in Israel should move and why Congress approved the move 20 years ago. Why should we care? The borders of Israel, approved by Winston Churchill in 1949, never included the “Old City.” Israel took control of East Jerusalem in the 1967 war and it’s been a contested topic since.

The much greater issue is why there hasn’t been an implemented peace plan that includes Jerusalem. From a recent Times of Israel publication, a poll was conducted by S. Daniel Abraham Center for Middle East Peace. The findings of the poll: “Roughly two-thirds expressed support for a two-state solution based on the 1967 borders, with land swaps; a demilitarized Palestine; and Jerusalem’s Old City administered by the United States, Israel, and the Palestinians, with Israel maintaining control of the western wall.”

The Palestinians, two-thirds of the Israeli citizens, and the rest of the world accept this as a fair and reasonable plan. So why hasn’t it been implemented?

The answer is simple. The prime minister of Israel and his party aren’t interested in a peace plan. They want more, not less: more land and more power. Using the Jewish Political Action Committee to lobby and wield their power in the U.S. Congress for unconditional support, they have comfort getting what they want, and need not worry about what the rest of the world thinks. I guess Trump doesn’t worry either.
